1930’s Photography & Fashion, Turbans, Shingle Hair & Fur Coat

1930s-deco-shingle wave hair 0021930s-turbanDURING THE 1920S NEW, LIGHT MACHINE AGE FABRICS, WERE COMING INTO FASHION & HEMLINES WERE GETTING DARINGLY SHORT. HOWEVER DURING THE 1930’S SKIRTS WERE LENGTHENING & FASHIONS WERE A LITTLE MORE REFINED & CONSERVATIVE. CLOCHE HATS WERE REPLACED WITH PERFECTLY COIFFED HAIR & TURBANS WERE COMING INTO THEIR OWN. EYEBROWS WERE SHAVED OR PLUCKED & PENCILED ON IN THIN HIGH ARCHES.

1920S AUSTRALIAN LADIES PIPE BAND

1920s-pipeband-womens00I FOUND THIS OLD POSTCARD IN A JUNK & EPHEMERA STORE. I AM FASCINATED TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN LADIES PIPE BAND. ALL THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT SO FAR, IS THAT THE BAND WAS AROUND IN THE 1920S & WENT ON AT LEAST ONE WORLD TOUR. I WOULD IMAGINE A LADIES PIPE BAND FROM DOWN UNDER WOULD HAVE BEEN SOMEWHAT OF A CURIOSITY IN THE ROARING TWENTIES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY WENT ON THEIR WORLD TOUR. WHILE I WAS SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION ON THE LADIES PIPE BAND I STUMBLED ACROSS THIS POSTER ADVERTISING FOR IMMIGRANTS TO COME TO AUSTRALIA DURING THE EARLY 1920S. I’TS A BIT SEXIST. IF THE WOMEN IN THE PIPE BAND WHERE TO STAY AT HOME LIKE THE POSTER SUGGESTS, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WORLD TOUR & I WOULD NEVER HAVE FOUND THEIR CURIOS POSTCARD.Southern_Cross__to_British
